VISIONThe Oregon Legal Graywater Association is dedicated to the creation of sustainable Oregon communities with respect to water use. Sustainable communities reflect a balanced interplay among the environment, the economy, and social systems. Water use is a perfect indicator for this concept: human use of water resources is quite necessary, but such use must be mindful. Consuming water from, and disposal of processed water into, natural systems can negatively affect them. Water transmission and purification uses a large amount of another limited resource-energy. Potable water can become limited in availability in some communities, particularly during the summer months. Nonetheless, there is no reasonable and legal means through which a household can reclaim non-potable wastewater for reuse. The State of Oregon can proactively change the culture of domestic water use through the legalization of graywater reuse for limited irrigation. One gallon of graywater used by urban households is one gallon of potable water reserved for its highest and best use-human consumption.
MISSION The mission of OLGA is to assist the State of Oregon in developing, testing (through household demonstration sites), and adopting graywater use regulations that facilitate reduced water consumption in urban households through safe, effective graywater use. |
